The World Is My Oyster, Grit Made Me a Pearl
This painting is composed of three connecting canvases that make up a triptych. It conveys artist Huey-Min Chuang’s lifelong journeys, East to West, from Kaohsiung Harbor to Buenos Aires, Argentina, then onwards to the USA, and the world. From these many beginnings, Chuang holds her hand out, palm up, ever ready to give, share, and receive from the wide-open universe and mother nature. Through highs and lows, majestic prairies and roaring seas, the world is Chuang’s oyster and grit made her a pearl. Each provided a divergent ecosystem and environment that Chuang had adapted to, physically, psychologically, and mentally. From a densely populated island with intense heat and humidity almost year round, to the expansive southern hemisphere of prairies and micro climates, then to the smallest State in the USA that are made of several islets, they provided for multi-faceted experiences that are hyper local, yet global in Chuang’s journeys.
